SCBWI New England has a long tradition of helping connect authors and illustrators with children and those who work with them.  We are happy to announce that “Connections,” the online speaker’s directory is now up and running in its new format.  The listing had taken a small hiatus as new website technology for the main SCBWI New England website outpaced the older listing.  The new listing features log-on capabilities, so authors and illustrators can maintain their listing from their own home computer.

Who should put a listing up?

The listing was created as a kind of speakers’ directory of New England children’s book authors and illustrators.  If you have been published (book/magazine articles) and do school and library visits, or would like to do school and library visits, it’s a great place to post your contact and program information.

How do I get my listing up?

You visit the new website and click on Register.  You will be linked to a page where you will choose a user name and a password and can enter your listing information.  Once your SCBWI membership has been verified and your listing has been approved by the Connections Coordinator, it will be posted online.  You can use your username and password to maintain your listing.

Can anyone register?

No, Only SCBWI members in good standing may register.  People who register and let their national membership lapse will be warned once before their listing is removed.

I’m a SCBWI member, but am not a New England SCBWI member.  Can I still add a listing?

SCBWI members who do not live in the six state New England region can add a listing if they are willing to travel to New England, or find themselves visiting often, etc.

What kind of information should I enter?

You are not required to fill out all fields, though it is to your benefit.  There are fields for program descriptions, educator endorsements, price range, program age level and travel range.  We now have the capability for a small graphic as well.  We’d advise you to visit the site and look at the entries already up to get an idea of what you’d like to post.  You can put quite a bit of text in the data fields, but might want to remember, the shorter the text, the more readable the form is on the computer screen.  We suggest putting enough information to gain a viewer’s interest and then have the bulk of your program information on your own website.
