Blurbs: "I LOVED your assembly with the children. After being in education for 36 years.....YOU are the best! You inspired the students to be writers and that is what we are striving to do as educators. How fun you are with them and you understand children so well....it shows! I wish you continued success in your future endeavors."
--- Beverly Lai, Teacher, Milpitas School District

"We loved how you played with words. Thank you for showing us sloppy copies. The writing tips were stupendous. The lizard was fantastic. Watching the play was hilarious." -- 4th graders, Madera Elementary School, Simi Valley, CA"

“This may have been the most successful author visit we have ever had, at least during my tenure. Everyone was just bowled over with your presentation.” -- Allison Waggener, Library Media Specialist, Butte County Office of Education

Program Info

Program Descriptions: ASSEMBLIES
In lively, highly interactive assemblies, Alexis uses music, costumes, props, overheads and kinesthetic experiences to engage students in “performing” stories. She explains how to find ideas, shows messy first drafts, and, through family photos, demonstrates how she was becoming a writer and didn’t even know it. In the intermediate assembly, Alexis expands on the writing process and how the “6-Traits-Plus-One” model works in the “real” world of professional writing. She demonstrates how students can express stories in many ways – through words, pictures, music and dance –motivating them to read every day and create their own stories.

CLASS VISITS & WRITING WORKSHOPS:
Assemblies are followed by up to four 30-minute Question-and-Answer (Q&A) class visits for Grades 3 and up (up to 60 kids in one location at a time.)

Another option is to replace two Q&A sessions with one 60-minute writing workshop (Grades 3 and up). Example: “Finding Ideas: A Surefire Technique for Young Writers” or “See Your Name in Print: A Young Author’s & Illustrator’s Guide to Submitting Work to National Publications.”
Program Pricing: Fees range from $1200 - $1500 per day plus expenses. Discounts offered for consecutive-day bookings for schools in the same or neighboring school districts.
Special Features: I'm yours for the whole day! Two to three large group assemblies plus 4 classroom visits (30-minutes each) or 2 writing workshops (60-minutes each).

When you book a visit, you’ll receive an Author Visit Packet in advance, crammed with activities, handouts and “hang-ups” for your bulletin board.

Family Night events and Teacher Workshops are a great addition to a day of assemblies.
Audience Levels: Preschool; Lower Elementary; Upper Elementary; Middle School; High School; Adult
