Short Bio: Dr. Padma Venkatraman is an author and an oceanographer. She lived in several countries before becoming an American citizen. She has directed a school and taught faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, and school children (elementary to high school).
Selected Works: Padma Venkatraman's debut novel, CLIMBING THE STAIRS (Penguin, 2008), is a coming-of-age story set in India in the 1940's, in which a young woman's struggle for personal freedom unfolds against the dramatic historical background of World War II and India's nonviolent independence movement led by Gandhi.

Program Descriptions: Writing workshops for all age groups, Workshops for teachers on teaching multicultural fiction, High School workshops on CLIMBING THE STAIRS with curricular tie-ins (World War II, The Civil Rights Movement, Women's Rights, World history and geography), Middle school Mathematical folktale workshops.
Program Pricing: $ 1000/- plus expenses (negotiable)
Special Features: Padma Venkatraman is as familiar with teaching adults as she is with teaching children, and as comfortable with the world of science and mathematics as she is with the world of writing and literature. Her innovative hands-on workshops can be tailored so that they cater to each group's special needs. Follow up materials and worksheets can be provided.
