Blurbs: Testimonials from EDUCATORS and PARENTS:

"Yet another great [presentation]. You just get better and better."
—Susie Mee, Director, Authors Read Aloud (a Learning Leaders program), New York, NY

"You are by far the best author that we have had in my classroom. The content and your approach are terrific. You obviously know what children enjoy and you relate to them at their level. My students will never forget you."
—Socorrito "Sukie" Claudio, 5th grade teacher, PS 130, Bronx, NY

"I can't say enough good things about your visit! People have been coming up to me all afternoon and evening at baseball telling me that their kids loved today's author visit! My son came home very bummed because it's all the kids in his class were talking about and he missed it!"
—Judy Senft, PTA, Norton School, Cheshire, CT

“I was very impressed by your presentation! Your talk about ‘perseverance and rejection’ was extremely inspirational for both the teachers and students. You are very talented and I was honored to get to meet you! I have NEVER seen the students being so quiet and intrigued!"
—Jennifer Marini, 4th grade teacher, Long Hill School, Shelton, CT

"Your warmth, friendliness, and humor made the children feel comfortable and ready to listen. My students were riveted."
—Terry Ballan, 4th grade teacher, Villa Maria Education Center, Stamford, CT

"Thank you for having such an effect on my son. You rock. Not everyone has such an effect on him. When someone as gifted as you has the opportunity to change the lives of our youth, that is truly rare. Please keep writing children's books."
—Sandra Mpamugo, parent of 4th grader at Kensico School, Valhalla, NY

"The way you allowed the students to see that rejection isn't necessarily a bad thing was fantastic. You brought your talents and career to life. You are truly talented."
—Karie Braca, 5th grade teacher, Villa Maria Education Center, Stamford, CT

"I enjoyed your presentation, especially the idea of rejection. I think that this is an idea that children are not prepared for and you did a dynamite job getting that point across. You definitely inspired my more talented writers."
—Mr. Olson, 4th grade teacher, Norton Elementary School, Cheshire, CT

"I really liked your message! The students enjoyed your personality and the cartoons. I felt you were sincere about helping children become successful in their lives."
—Chris DeGennaro, 4th grade teacher, Sunnyside School, Shelton, CT

"Very motivating. The students were very excited. They said they never expected a cartoonist's job to be so difficult."
—Colleen Reilly, 5th grade teacher, St. Ann, Bridgeport, CT

"Your presentation affected one student very deeply. He is struggling with placing too much pressure on himself to succeed. Your presentation opened his eyes to see that it is alright not to succeed every time."
—Stacy Stanhope, 3rd grade teacher, Villa Maria Education Center, Stamford, CT

"Very positive. I REALLY liked your message about rejection and not giving up. I found your reading your letters of rejection to be both amusing and instructional."
—Betsy Varian, 6th grade teacher, Villa Maria Education Center, Stamford, CT

"Our office manager Brian, his daughter, and his two grandchildren were in the audience for part of your presentation [about persistence]. Brian told me that on the drive home, five-year-old James asked his mom for some candy, and she told him no. Every few minutes, James asked again, and again, and again. Finally his mother asked him why he kept asking her when she told him he couldn't have any candy. His response was, "Because the man said if you keep asking, you will get it."
—Sister Carol Ann, Principal, Villa Maria Education Center, Stamford, CT

"The kids still talk about your assembly you did last year."
—Kristin Cheek, teacher, Norton School, Cheshire, CT

"The students really enjoyed your presentation. They thought you were a lot like themselves which I found interesting...a kind of peer of sorts. A pleasure meeting you."
—Wilma Narciso, librarian, Bethlehem Elementary School, Bethlehem, CT

"I personally really enjoyed it. I myself am interested in writing. Maybe I needed this."
—Elizabeth Olsen, 6th grade teacher, Villa Maria Education Center, Stamford, CT

Program Descriptions: 1 - Books and Cartoons, Persistence and Rejection - my standard presentation is a diverse, lively hour revealing the "behind-the-scenes" of a freelance writer/cartoonist; it's filled with PowerPoint and live sketches throughout, audience participation, a cartoon game with a twist, a reading of my real live rejection letters, and a few surprises

2 - What's So Funny?: The Language of Cartoons - a presentation/workshop revealing that there's a lot more going on in those seemingly simple little boxes; I reveal tips and tricks of cartoonists from the "magic of three lines" to the multiple types of word bubbles, plus share the CAB method of composing a visually strong frame; every student creates his/her own cartoon
