Program Info

Program Descriptions: Some of the workshops available:

* Becoming an Author: I describe the paths authors follow, from childhood to publication. I touch upon the writing process, revision, pitfalls, and successes.

* The Life of a Book: Using No Castles Here> and Come Fall as examples, I discuss the steps authors go through from the first idea of a story to its ultimate publication.

* Sparking Ideas for a Story: In a workshop environment, I demonstrate how one can use events that happen in each person's every day life to create a work of fiction. (Limit: 25 participants.)

* Revision: Using concrete examples, I discuss the multiple steps authors take, and each step's purpose, to go from a rough draft to a polished story.

* Writing About Many Cultures: I discuss how someone from one culture can create stories that include characters from a diversity of cultures.

I can also tailor any presentation or workshop to suit the venue's needs, covering a wide range of topics related to writing, reading, or being an author. In addition, I do joint presentations with other authors and illustrators. A partial list of these is available at http://writeupouralley.com.
