Writing Workshop
Program Length: 60-90 minutes
Format: Small group, hands on activity
Number of participants: 3-10 Appropriate for teens or adults.
Does your library or school have a writing group or have many teens expressed an interest in writing for pleasure or potential publication? This program offers teens (or adults!) the chance to meet with a published author, complete a writing exercise, and share their writing with the group for feedback. This program can be repeated so that the exercises may build on one another, or may be a one shot deal. If you are hoping to start a writing group at your library, this would be a great kick-off.
Writing is Rewriting
Program Length: 45 minutes
Format: Presentation with time for q&a at end
Number of participants: 5-25 teens, with adult supervision. Also appropriate for adults, and a mixed group would be welcome.
Technology requirements: Projector and screen.
Many teens express themselves through writing. But what comes after the initial burst of inspiration gets words on the page? Secrets of Truth & Beauty went through countless revisions. This presentation traces the journey of a novel from idea through revisions with the editor to the galley to the final copy. Scans of pages with editor scrawl will show just how detailed these revisions can be. Many teens are aspiring authors and this program will give them an inside view of the process.
Book Group
Program Length: 60 minutes
Format: Round Table Discussion
Number of Participants: 4-15
If your book group has read Secrets of Truth & Beauty, I would love to be a part of the discussion! A novel about family, this book would be a particularly good choice for mother-daughter book clubs. |
