BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS! Using her books about animals, Lesléa Newman shows students how a book is created from start to finish. Includes many "show-and-tells" such as photos, first drafts, artists sketches, and press sheets. The idea that everyone can be a writer--all you need is a pen, paper, and your imagination is repeated over and over, so that when the presentation is over, students are eager to go back to their classroom to write, convinced that writing is fun, fun, fun!
WAN WAN MEANS WOOF WOOF: THE STORY OF HACHIKO WAITS-- Based on a true story, HACHIKO WAITS tells of the famous Akita who waited ten years for his master's return. In this presentation, Lesléa Newman shows how she traveled back in time and across the ocean without leaving her home (except to go the library) and research this story. Using photos, artifacts, and early drafts of the book, Lesléa shows how research can be fun and creative, and surprising. Perfect presentation for students studying Japan. |
