The Pigeon's Auction for Children Affected by Katrina
Those who create works for children--renowned children's Authors, Illustrators, and Television Creators--are donating items to benefit the children affected by Hurricane Katrina in an on-line auction of original art, signed books, and signed memorabilia. All proceeds will go into a fund for children run by The Foundations for Recovery (http://www.foundationsforrecovery.org).
"The need is clear and ongoing, and, as a native New Orleanian, it strikes quite close to home. While on tour this fall I visited a couple of evacuee schools in Baton Rouge filled with eager students who, quite literally, had nothing to learn with. No paper, no pencils, no tables, no chairs." - Mo Willems
As of today, contributors include: Brad Baird (Director of The Incredibles), Dave Barry, Eric Carle, Kevin Clash (Sesame Street’s Elmo), Eoin Colfer, Tony Diterlizzi, Dave Eggers, Newbery Medalist Kate DiCamillo, Oscar Winner Pete Docter (Director of Monsters, Inc.), Laurie Keller, Caldecott Medalist Emily Arnold McCully, Noel McNeil (Bear of Bear in the Big Blue House), Jon J. Muth, Ridley Pearson, Tamora Pierce, Caldecott honoree Brian Pinkney, Jon Scieszka, Caldecott honoree David Shannon, Caldecott honoree Peter Sis, Caldecott honoree Brian Selznick, Caldecott honoree Lane Smith, Andrew Stanton (Director of Finding Nemo), and Caldecott honoree Mo Willems.
This initiative is being organized by The Mo Willems Studio (http://www.mowillems.com), and the technical, logistical aspects of auction will be generously handled by the TV production company Curious Pictures (http://www.curiouspictures.com)
